Reservations

  

State Nature Reserves 
Natural State reservations are organized in  land areas as defined by the legislation  without taking from land  owner, lessor and user. The protection and restoration of natural complexes here is carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. State natural reservations are areas of special importance for protection or restoration of natural complexes and their components, as well as for the maintenance of ecological balance.
The first reserve was established in 1961. The process of creation of reservations continued up to 1993. In 2003 again re-establishment of reservations started and same year n Gakh, and in 2005 Araz and Hirkan, in 2008 Zagatala, in 2009 Arpachay and Rvarud State Natural Reservations were created.

Garayazi-Agstafa State Nature Reserve
It was created in February 1964 in the area of present-day Aghstafa region, in Garayazi forests. The area is 11970 hectares.
The natural landscape of the reserve consists  of mainly  tugay, oak, and a young mixed forest and bushes, thorny plants and grass, pastures, sewing, reedy areas, pebble.
Although the area of the reserve was affected by intensive human economic activity but it is still in animal and birds. Here one can see deer, wild boar, beaver, wolf, rabbit, forest cat, fox, mammals such as badgers, pheasants, woodpecker, wood pigeon, water pheasant, duck, coot, dove, hoopoe, woodpecker, quail and other species of birds.

Sheki State Nature Reserve 
It was established in Sheki region in February 26, 1964. It is located between the roads of Yevlakh-Sheki and Sheki-Oguz on the Ayrichay basin.
The purpose of creation of reserves was to preserve animals and birds, especially birds such as pheasant, partridge, and brown bear, wild boar. Area is 10350 hectares.
The area has a rich plant cover. Forests consist of oak, alder, walnut, mulberry trees. In the river valleys along the forest forming trees hawthorn, medlar, blackberry, cherry-plum bushes forms impenetrable jungles.
In Sheki reserve mammals like brown bear, wild boar, wolf, jackal, fox, forest cat, raccoon, badger, rabbit, weasel, forest squirrel, squirrel, and birds like pheasant, partridge, wood pigeon, wood pigeon, bekas, quail, duck drake are inhabited.

Lachin State Nature Reserve
It was in November 1961 in territory of Lachin region. The purpose of creation of reserve was to protect mammals (roe deer, mountain goat, wild boar) and birds (partridge). The area is  21370 hectares.
The territory mainly consists of poplar, birch, oak forests.
Here, there are favorable conditions for the settlement of a number of the animals. In reserve mammals like bezoar goat, roe deer, wild boar, hare, wolf, badger, squirrel, bear, and birds like partridge, tetra birds, quail, and wood pigeon can be found.
At the moment the reserve is under occupation and its activity was completely stopped.

Ismayilli State Nature Reserve
It was established in July 1969. In particular, it covers the areas of Ismayilli, partially Gabala region. Before its area was 34400 hectares, and was reduced up to 23438 hectares basing on relevant state basis.
The main purpose of creation of reserve was to preserve and increase the number of animals living here.
Vegetation consists of alpine and sub-alpine mountain-meadow and forest plants. The areas covered with forests mainly consist of hornbeam, beech and oak forests. Animal species is very rich in number in the territory of reserve . The birds like partridge, quail, partridge, wood pigeon, mammals like wolves, lynx, forest cat, raccoon, jackal, squirrel, rabbit inhabit here.

Gusar State Nature Reserve
It was established in July 1964 in Gusar region. The main objective of creation of reserve here was to preserve a number of important species of animals and birds. Its area is 15 000 ha.
Trees like beech, hornbeam, and oak species are spread in the forest. From bushes hawthorn, cornelian cherry, pear, plum, apple, roe are found here.
Mammals like wild boar, roe deer, wolves, forest cat, wild cat, jackal, raccoon, rabbit, and birds like  partridge,  quail, duck drake spread in the reserve.

Gyzylja State Nature Reserve
It was created in the forest economy of Gadabay forests in February 1984. The purpose of creation of the reserve was to protect nature of complex, in particular, endangered animals and plant. Area is 5135 hectares.
Mountain-steppe vegetation was developed in the area of forest. Here, the main trees forming the forest are oak, beech and hornbeam.
 Animals like roe deer, brown bear, wild boar, rabbit can be found in the reserve.

Gubadly State Nature Reserve
It was created in July 1969 in the territory of  Gubadly and Lachin regions. It covers the north of Gubadly and south of Lachin region, the mountain-steppe areas. The purpose of creation of this reserve was to protect the animal world, especially those inhabited here like mammal species (roe deer, wild boar) and birds (pheasant). Area is 20 000 ha.
Sparse oak groves and bushes spread in the area consists of oak, hornbeam, juniper, hawthorn.
Environmental factors of the area contributed to the animal\'s normal existence here. Wild boar, brown bear, wolf, jackal, fox, roe deer, rabbit, fox, partridge, pheasant, partridge, quail species can be found here.
At the moment the reserve is under occupation and its activity is completely stopped.

Zuvand State Nature Reserve
It was created in July 1969 territory of Lerik and Yardimli regions. The main purpose of creation of the reserve to protect in the mountain dry steppe bezoar goat, partridge, etc. animals. Area is 15 000 ha. Vegetation of the area is very poor, and consists of dry steppe vegetation complexes. In particular, groups of wild cereals and leguminous-cereal crops are dominant.
The area of the reserve is very rich in fauna. Here rock goat, hyena, wild boar, hare, wolf, fox, etc. animals are found.

Shamkir State Nature Reserve
It was created in February 1964 in the territory of Shamkir region. The purpose of creation of reserve was to protect birds and mammal species, especially wild boar, partridge, pheasant and ducts. Area is 10000 ha.
Tugay and semi-desert vegetation formations are spread in the reserve. Tugay forest and  bushes are located  around the Kura river, and consists of the willow, poplar, blackberries, tamarisk, etc.
A variety of natural landscape of the area is suitable for the animals to be settled here. Mammals like wild boar, wolves, hares, forest cat, jackal, fox, partridge, pheasant, partridge, and variety of water birds are available here .

Barda State Nature Reserve
It was created in May 1966 in the territory of Barda and Agdam regions. The main purpose of creation of reserve was to preserve and enrich the tugay forests around the Kura river and its fauna. The total area is 7500 hectares.
Natural vegetation consists mainly poplar, poplar, willow, mulberry, etc. young forestry, which is dominated by bushes, oak dominated forestry.
In reserve mammals like wild boar, jackal, fox, forest cat, wild cat, badger, forest squirrel, rabbit, etc., and birds like pheasant, partridge, red duck, wood pigeon, and others are settled.

Korchay State Nature Reserve
It was created in November 1961 in the territory of Khanlar (present Goy Gol) and Goranboy regions. The main purpose is to protect hunting animal and bird of the area. The total area of the reserve is  15,000 hectares.
Vegetation consists of wormwood plant groups, plant complex of river basins. Ephemeris is developing very well in the area. 
The mammals like  gazelles, rabbits, foxes, jackals, wolves, and birds like partridge etc. are available here.

Bandovan State Nature Reserve
It was established in November 1961, in the territories of Salyan and Garadagh regions. The main purpose of creation of the reserve was to protect and increase the number of mammals like gazelles, migratory and local water and land birds. At present, the area is 4930 hectares. The area is rich in fauna. 
The mammals of the reserve are gazelles, rabbits, foxes, jackals, wolves, badgers. Seal and various fishes inhabit in the Caspian Sea and in its coastal waters. Birds like swan, river duck, diving duck, heron,  coot, little bustard, partridge, quail, etc. are spread here.

Gil Island State Nature Reserve
It was established in February 1964. It is located in the territory of Garadag region. Area of the reserve is 400 hectares. Here, mainly birds, in particular silver seagulls around  the island are protected. The number of seagulls of the aea sometimes reaches 10 000.

Kichik Glzllagaj State Nature Reserve
It was created in February 1978 in the territory of Lankaran region in the medium and southern part of Kichik Glzllagaj Gulf.
The purpose of the creation of reserve to protect migrating and local bird inhabited in  water, wetlands and dry areas. The area is 10 700 ha.
Kichik Gyzylagaj gulf is rich in fish and is home for a large number of migratory and local birds.
Sea eagle, grave eagl,e sultan hen, partridge, bustard, etc birds and from mammals wolves, foxes, jackals, wild cats, badgers, etc. species are found here in reserve.

Dashalti State Nature Reserve
It was created in Nov 24, 1981 around the Shusha town . The area is 450 hectares. Shusha town and Shusha region is one of the most picturesque region of Garabagh, Azerbaijan, with charming nature, rich history and monuments. Their protection is important from natural and historical point of view, like  the standard preservation of the territories. 
The area of reserve is a rich in forest, shrubs and grasses and like a natural museum. The oak, hornbeam, maple, poplar, ash, hawthorn, wild boar, cornelian cherry, medlar, apple, pear, plum, etc. trees and bushes are developing here normally. The area is rich with medicine, endemic and rare plants.
Here the roe deer, wild boar, squirrel, rabbit, wolf, jackal, and dozens of bird species are inhabited.
At the moment the reserve is under occupation and its activity is completely stopped.

Qabala State Nature Reserve 
It was arranged in 1993 in the territory of Gabala  region. It area is 39 700 hectares. The main purpose of creation is to protect the landscape of the southern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains.

Gakh State Nature Reserve
It was established in June 16, 2003. The purpose of creation of the reserve is to protect  endangered animal species inhabited in bordered areas with yhe Ilisu State Reserve  and at Ajinohur plain and fauna protection and restoration. Area is 36 836 ha.

Ordubad State Nature Reserve
It was created in July 1969, in the territory of Ordubad region of Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. By decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 16, 2003 the 12131 hectares of administration territory of region was declared Ordubad National Park. National Park was named after academician Hasan Aliyev. Currently territory of the reserve is 27869.
The purpose in creation of reserve was to increase rare and valuable animals of the area.
Bezoar goat, chamois, rock squirrel, wolf, jackal, fox, etc. mammal species, birds like partridge, pheasant, quail, wood pigeon, etc. are found.

Along Araz river State Nature Reserve
It was created at the beginning of 2005 in 9118 hectares on land in the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Hirkan State Nature Reserve
It was created in December 2005 in the territory of Lankaran and Astara regions, in land of 2252  hectares of forest fund and named Hirkan State Nature Reserve. The main purpose of creation was a protection of forests bordered by National Park of Hirkan, to preserve migration routes endangered of animal species of the Republic of Azerbaijan included in  Red Book, to protect  ecosystem’s integrity and biological diversity.

Zagatala State Nature Reserve
It was created in November 2008 in summer pastures in the administrative territory of Balakan and Zagatala regions, in the area of 6557 hectares on account of lands of forest protection and restoration economy. The main purpose of creation of the reserve is to protect unified ecosystem of regions adjoining to Zagatala, to protect migration routes of endangered species
Arpachay State Nature Reserve
Arpachay State  Natural Reserve  was established in the territory of Sharur region of Nakhchivan  Autonomous Republic by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated June 26, 2009, in area of 68911 hectares.

Rvarud State Nature Reserve
Rvarud State  Natural Reserve was established in the territory of Lerik region by decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 02, 2009 in an area of 1333 ha.
