Omar Eldarov (1927)

He studied in Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Institute named after I.Repin in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
Omar Eldarov was elected in 1958-1968 as a member of the Secretariat of the Union of Artists. In 1970, he was appointed as the head of Baku workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts in sculpture.
In 1995 Omar Eldarov was elected as deputy of the Milli Majlis. At present he is the Rector of the Academy of Arts.
He is an author of gravestone monuments of Natavan, Mohammed Fizuli, Hussein Javid, U. Hajibeyov (1955, Baku), artist Sattar Bahlulzade (1974, Baku), composer and jazz musician Vagif Mustafazadeh (1984, Baku), conductor Niyazi (1989, Baku), writer Suleyman Rahimov (1991, Baku), composer Fikret Amirov (1988, Baku), orientalist, historian, academician Ziya Bunyadov (2000, Baku), academician Hasan Aliyev (1988, Baku), painter Sattar Bahlulzade and others.
Artist is an author of a number of the camera type small-scale works. The monument-bust of the late President Heydar Aliyev in Nakhichevan, also the monument in Kars (2001), “Elegy” marble composition which devoted to memory of a scientist, oculist Zarifa Aliyeva (1997), the monument of Turkish scholar Ihsan Dogramaji (2002) in the city of Bilkent are new creative successes of O.Eldarov.
O. Eldarov was elected as real member of the Academy of Arts of the Soviet Union. He is People\'s Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The famous artist was awarded with “Istiqlal’ order for his services in development of sculpture in Azerbaijan (1997) and the Dostoynomu medal of Russian Federation (2002).
