Habib Sahir (1903-1988) - poet

Literary critics recognized him as Victor Hugo  of all Azerbaijan and stranger, oldest poet of the South. He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of History and Geography. Then he returned to the South Azerbaijan. He was familiar with the Turkish and French poetry. H. Sahir had translated Lamarti’s famous Lake poem in Azerbaijani. In subsequent years after the Islamic revolution Sahir could not stand injustice and insults against south Azerbaijanis, as well as pressure and torture of the regime against him forced him hung self in window of apartment in the city of Arai, near Tehran.
