International Competitions

  

Azerbaijan already occupying the rightful place in the world sports arena is also a host to many international competitions. Europe and world championships held in Azerbaijan are of series. Each year, the world and continental championships, the Olympic Games licensed tournaments are held in country on artistic gymnastics, taekwondo, wrestling, boxing, karate, soccer and other sport kinds. In total, more than 300 international competitions were held in the last 10 years in Azerbaijan. Here we bring to your kind attention most major competitions that drew attention of the world sport community in recent years and that attracted more countries and athletes:

Junior European Championships of Judoists

In 2003, in Heydar Aliyev Sport - Concert Complex in Baku the Junior European Championship of Judoists was held among teenagers. 300 judoists took part from the continent\'s 30 countries in this judo competition.

World Cup on Rhythmic Gymnastics

In 2004, in Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex in Baku, stage competition of the World Cup on Rhythmic Gymnastics was held. 47 gymnasts from 22 countries around the world participated in the competition.

European Olympic license competition on taekwondo

In 2004, the European Olympic license tournament on the taekwondo was held in Baku Sport Palace. 268 athletes from 39 countries of Europe struggled in the tournament.

The 27th World Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics

On October 3-9, 2005, in Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex of Baku 27th World Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics was held. The female gymnasts from 47 countries participated in the competition.

The 24th World Championship of military men in Wrestling
In 2006, in Sport and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev the 24th World Championship on freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling among the military men was held. More than 200 athletes from 20 countries of the world competed with their strength for awards at this championship.

The World Cup of Free-style, classic-Roman wrestling and women wrestlers

In September, 2007, in Heydar Aliyev Sports and Exhibition Complex of Baku, the World Cup of free style classic Roman wrestling and women\'s wrestlers was held. More than 2500 athletes from 102 countries took part in the championship.

European Championship among Paralympics judoists

In 2007, the European Championship was held in Baku among Paralympics judoists with vision defects. Continental Cup was the first large-scale competition in the history of the Azerbaijani Paralympics movement. In competitions held under licensing of Beijing Paralympics Games  more than 100 athletes from France, Great Britain, Finland, Italy, Serbia, Hungary, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Greece, participated.

The 25th European Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku
In 2009, in Sport and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku, the 25th European Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics was held. 186 gymnasts from 32 countries of the world attended the competitions.

The World Cup on irregular fighting
The third the World Cup on Pankration, irregular fighting was held in Baku Sport Palace in 2009. In general, 120 athletes from 25 countries, including Azerbaijan national team had struggled for the award.

The Fencing World Championship among Youth and Cadets

In 2010, in Sport and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku, the World Championship on fencing among Youth and Cadets was held. 1565 sportsmen of the world\'s 87 countries took part in the competitions.

64th World Cup on Bodybuilding

In 2010, in Palace named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku, the 64th world championship on bodybuilding among men was held. Athletes from 63 countries of the world had struggled for awards.

World Youth Boxing Championship
The world youth boxing championship was held in Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Center in 2010. 500 athletes from 96 countries participated in the championship.

Freestyle, Greco-Roman and women\'s European wrestling championship
In 2010, n the Sport and Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku freestyle, Greco-Roman and women\'s European wrestling championship was held. 383 athletes from 36 countries including Azerbaijan took part in the competition.

World Masters International Tournament on Judo
In 2011, the International tournament on rating points from series of World Masters was held in Baku. More than 300 athletes from 42 countries struggled in the tournament.

Judo World Cup
In 2011, in the Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Center Judo World Cup competitions among men held for licensing for London Summer Olympiads in Baku 2012.

 XVI World Boxing Championship

From September 26, to Oct 8, 2011 the World Boxing Championship was held in Baku among 570 boxers from 113 countries. This is a record figure for the number of countries and athletes. This championship also had the nature of a license for London Olympiad in 2012.

Freestyle, Greco-Roman world championship among cadets and beach wrestling among females
On August 21-27, 2012 in Sports-Concert Complex named after Heydar Aliyev freestyle, Greco-Roman among cadets and women and the beach world championship in wrestling held. 850 athletes from 41 countries took part in the World Championship.
 
GT3 and classic Formula 1 race

On October 26-28, 2012, for the first time  GT3 and classic Formula 1 racing City Challenge Baku auto rally was held. 10 teams (each with 2 drives) participated in the competition and the 2.1-kilometer race strip have been overcome. The race attracted over 300 million spectators and broadcasted in 120 countries through the TV channels.

The World Cup among 17-year-old girls in Azerbaijan

FIFA U-17 Women\'s World Championship held on 22nd September – 13th October 2012, and the girl players less than 17 years of age from 16 countries participated in competition. This was the first FIFA action held in Azerbaijan and U-17 Women\'s World Cup in Eurasia.
