Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company is one of the oldest television and radio unit of the country. Azerbaijani radio was set up on November 6, 1926 and the television on February 14, 1956.
In October 1957, TV Unit was withdrawn from the subordination of the Ministry of Culture and was united with Radio Information Department and State Radio and Television Broadcasting Committee was established under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In 1970, the television got the status of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee. In 1991, the committee turned to the company. Since June 2003, Nakchichevan TV, which was a part of the Azerbaijan State Television, began to operate independently.
In March 23, 2005, by No. 213 Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company was established on the base of Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.
