It is a memorial complex where a group of people who have special services for Azerbaijani people and statehood, were buried. The Honorary Cemetery was established by Executive Order No. 680 of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic on August 27, 1948
The Honorary Cemetery is located in the mountainous part of the city of Baku, in Yasamal region. Those who buried here are persons once held high state positions during the years of Soviet power and independence, distinguished people working in different fields of economy, well-known science, literature, culture and art figures, persons awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for personal courage and bravery shown during the years of the Second World War (1939-1945) in the battles against the German fascists.
The Honorary Cemetery is one of places most visited by Azerbaijanis and foreign guests visiting our country.
